Dreschler Hotel Consultation

I have explored the pattern examination for the Dreschler Hotel and contending inns and find that in contrast with the contending market, Dreschler is well inside the numbers all things considered. Inhabitance rate when contrasted with like lodgings shows up with be nearly standard with a normal of 99. 3 file throughout the previous half year time of 2005. This is expressing that on normal Dreschler is nearly at a similar pace of inhabitance as other contending inns. The normal every day room rate comes out to a 100. 8 record which is expressing that the rate being charged day by day is at or above what different inns in this contending industry are charging. The equivalent with the income per accessible rooms, the half year normal comes out to a file of 99. 9 contrasted and like lodgings. To reiterate this pattern examination, I accept the inhabitance rate can be improved throughout the mid year months on account of the area and exercises offered by this housing office. Be that as it may, in the wake of evaluating Santa Cruz County for the year 2005, normal inhabitance rate for lodgings was at 64. 7% and for the entire territory of Arizona the yearly normal was just 65. 8%. Dreschler has all the earmarks of being on the upper finish of these midpoints at 72. 6% normal throughout the previous a half year of the year. This figure could clearly be higher or lower in view of the figures for the initial a half year of the year. In light of the figures of having roughly 8 rooms on normal for every day accessible out of 30 isn't too awful, nor is it acceptable. At the point when the ADR is at $103. 71 on normal for Dreschler while the normal ADR statewide is just $90. 39, it could be conceivable to offer limits during more slow seasons so as to occupy the rooms. Another alternative is offer specials to with encompassing organizations, for example, wine sampling occasions, craftsmanship and historical center occasions, social occasions, feathered creature watching occasions, and in any event, biking or climbing trips. Potential Improvements Dreschler has a considerable amount to offer similar to civilities in entire and the measure of rooms accessible. I would begin with making changes in the rooms, measure of rooms, and sorts of rooms. First off, let us cut back on the measure of rooms that are sharing restrooms and make more security for the visitor. I would guarantee that all rooms and suites have their own lavoratory at least. Single rooms with just room setting and sitting niche ought to have a washroom with can, sink, and shower. There ought to be a decision of which sort of single room a visitor would need by switching up the beds. Offer some with two twins, or single twin and stow away a-bed couch and obviously the sovereign. Next room style would be progressively similar to a little loft suite. This would have a sitting zone separate from the room and restroom. Additionally offer the decisions of bed set-ups in the bigger suites, for example, twofold twins, sovereign, and lord. The restroom would be equivalent to with the single rooms also. There must be a fancy set-up or the like, a couple would be acceptable like a Honeymoon suite or an Executive suite, or perhaps both. The special night suite would be around 800 square feet of extravagance. The room would be independent from the parlor, breakfast niche simply inside the overhang entryways; the washroom would be private with a shower just as the can, sink, and shower. I would likely recommend this room be on the second floor with a gallery sitting above the nursery and conceivable put a Jacuzzi on this deck. The Executive suite would be designed for business staff that might be visiting the area or close by for a show or meeting or some likeness thereof. This room would offer two separate dozing quarters, sitting zone, breakfast niche, full restroom with latrine, sink, and shower, and a deck also, that ignores the nursery zone. All rooms will be outfitted with satellite TV, a sound framework that is constrained by the visitor, morning timers, Wi-Fi association, and cooling. Different enhancements will incorporate espresso, tea, and hot cocoa in rooms with small refrigerators, microwaves, a work area territory, writing in regards to the historical backdrop of the encompassing region, network highlights, occasions, and exercises, and obviously for the washroom we would offer a hair dryer, pressing block that folds in the divider, and hand salves, cleansers, and shampoos. Different regions of the foundation could be opened up additional for private sitting time or simply respecting the excellence encompassing the cabin. Breakfast is served at the entryway of all rooms by 7 a. m. each morning, and comprises of cheeses, new organic products, juices, yogurts, and new heated baked goods. I might want to see an open feasting zone in the nursery for the individuals who wish to eat on their morning cake and espresso in the solace of the morning sun. Subsidizing Options There are a few financing choices accessible since we have no working capital. We could open up to the world and offer offers to fund-raise to put into the adjustments, however the issue with this is as an entrepreneur you won't get the chance to keep 100% of the benefits; you will be delivering your investors a profit. Value financial specialists will require a level of possession just as the arrival on their speculation. This can likewise end up being exorbitant not far off. Another alternative is to get an advance, however most loaning organizations will just loan 60%-70% of the mentioned sum leaving the borrower raising the other 30%-40% in value. This may not be an awful arrangement if the value financial specialist doesn't request a huge part of possession and shows restraint on returns. Another alternative is a 7(a) advance since they are the least difficult and most normal advance sort from the Small Business Association. The financing of a 7(a) credit can be ensured for an assortment of general business purposes, for example, working capital, hardware and gear, furniture and apparatuses, and obligation renegotiating (under uncommon conditions). Advance development is as long as 10 years for working capital and for the most part as long as 25 years for fixed resources (http://www. sba. gov). These sorts of advances are handily acquired since numerous banks in America partake in SBA’s program and structure the advances agreeing the prerequisites of this program. The SBA imparts the hazard to the bank if the borrower defaults. The qualification necessities are genuinely expansive to suit the most differing assortment of private venture financing needs (http://www. sba. gov). To Convert or Not to Convert a few advantages to changing over this property to either a townhouse, apartment suite, or blended use property would be a) the prompt income accessible in advance from the rooms being bought by co-op holders; and b) hence the proprietor doesn't need to trust that the undertaking will produce an arrival on venture. Condo would be decent in that all rooms would ideally be sold and used consistently. The timeframe that somebody holds an offer for can be as long as 30 years. The townhouse perspective is marginally extraordinary in that the speculator doesn't really utilize the room however wants to make an arrival on his interest in that room. This can represent an issue if there isn't a lot of action in that investor’s room. A blended go through set would presumably be the most gainful of the three since it would offer the proprietor a differing wellspring of salary from an assortment of shops and organizations inside the lodging. Despite the fact that, I don't see this being a chance here since this is an overnight boardinghouse foundation with more than 90 shops inside strolling separation. You likewise have the issues of attempting to draw in great brand name accomplices to work with you, and offering the plan to different financial specialists and perhaps loaning foundations could represent a genuine issue on the off chance that you don't have a total comprehension of the market requests. I believe that keeping this quaint little inn as is would be the most gainful yet the adjustments and room redesigns should be additionally pleasing to an assortment of visitors so as to accomplish the higher incomes conceivable. New Name Coming up with another name for the foundation can be a test since I am proposing the adjustments that I am. There is no noteworthy â€Å"one† kind of individual that I am attempting to draw in to this foundation, however to a greater degree an assortment so as to occupy all the rooms all the time. I might want to present the name of Santa Cruz Country Inn since this is in the core of Santa Cruz County and offers up the grand beautiful wide open that it does. The entirety of the highlights of this foundation talk nation to me. The winged animal watching, climbing, characteristic magnificence of the scene encompassing the motel, the state parks, closeness of the Santa Cruz waterway, and simply the overall serene inclination one has when here. I might want to offer a quaint little inn that makes all who stay want to return due to the solace and unwinding that they feel while visiting this fine establishment.Reference http://www.tubaccountryinn.com/accommodations.html

Mohr and Spekman (1994) contended that the purchaser vender relationship is an organization which creates fulfillment when execution desires have been accomplished. An investigation had been led and demonstrated that dedication and co-appointment are emphatically connected with fulfillment and an expansion in benefits would achieve fulfillment among those gatherings engaged with the gracefully chain 3. Research Hypotheses The theories are built with a reason for helping with responding to the exploration question, which is looks to discover The Nature of Buyer-Seller Relationships in the Retail Sector. Obviously, regular attendance is essential for your grade since you will not be able to actively participate in classes that you do not attend. While it is only 15% of the total points, that amount can easily make a difference in your final grade. NOTE: To the extent possible, I keep track of the QUALITY of what you say rather than simply tracking the quantity of what you say. I am concerned with questions like: Does your comment contribute something new to the discussion? (as opposed to being something that can be summarized by â€Å"I agree with the previous comment†); Are you relating the current discussion to other classes that you have taken (accounting, finance, political science, OB†¦)?; Does your comment move the discussion along and create additional fruitful discussion? Hotel International and the Roaring Dragon Hotel alma Student Sullivan university MGM 510 Executive Summary This proposal provides a roadman toward Improving communications between the Hotel International (HI), a global hotelier, and the management control of the Roaring Dragon Hotel (3RD), one of the original three-star hotels in southwest China and a state owned enterprise (Grainier, 2008). Failure to recognize cultural norms and the relationship between employees, customers, and contractors will result in dramatic failure of modernization and an effective business plan (Grainier, 2008). Introduction: Management Control Takeover The management control takeover of the Roaring Dragon Hotel (3RD). We will write a custom essay sample on Proposal or any similar topic only for you Order Now One of the original three-star hotels in southwest China had a direct impact on the hotel’s employees, its popularity among current customers, and generating profit. 3RD is a state owned enterprise located in southwest China by Hotel International (HI), a global hotelier (Grainier, 2008). McNally (2011) observed, â€Å"Over the past thirty years China has witnessed a gradual transition towards a capitalist political economy with an emphasis on capital accumulation, market competition, and International economic Integration† (p. 1). Background: Deployment of corporate Governance and Global Marketing The provincial government was concerned that the hotel would not meet their potential and needed modernization. The current general manager, Titan Went, focused more on the security of its employees and not the hotel’s profit margin. The state negotiated new management hoping to drive increased revenue (Grainier, 2008). Currently, the 3RD had a great reputation. â€Å"Since the early sass it had enjoyed a long, colorful history and reputation as the region’s premium guesthouse† (Grainier, p. 1). Problem: Organizational culture There was a deep division separating the organization cultures of RED and HI. The HI business strategy and environment went against the current guan-based or Influence-based organizational culture. Guan Is the Chinese word describing Chinese business. The culture at 3RD promoted social business relations, drinking and eating etiquette, exchanging gifts and donations for favors. RED employees have a strong psychological need associated with receiving and giving â€Å"perks† that is tied their self-identification. These interpersonal relationships with each other and customers are relatable to both partnerships and friendships (Yuan Allele, 2007). In addition, 3RD employees were excited to work for the hotel because it showed they had achieved status based on the strength of their social connections. 3RD was not as worried about the hotel’s decline in popularity, revenue, or in delivering quality service standards. 3RD also had a long nepotistic history tied to the Guiana culture (Grainier, 2008). HI considered the networks of influence irrelevant and changed non-productive behaviors. New performance standards were enacted and employees unwilling to meet these new standards were fired. HI also began processing scheduled redundancy program. Once a place considered as secure employment, became uncertain and untrustworthy. This caused a deep division separating organizational cultures between RED and HI (Grainier, 2008). Another concern was the lose of important contracts. Nu If Travel was unsatisfied with the new pricing structures and canceled all future tours. This caused a reduction in revenue and also made competition look more favorable for unhappy employees. The conditions at 3RD continued to deteriorated with the loss of industry contacts and Guiana connections (Grainier, 2008). Opportunities: Satisfied Employees Success HI has the business strategy to promote efficiency in the hotel’s domestic management style and processes, thereby increasing income and popularity if they recognize the risk of alienating the current organizational culture. A healthy balance should be addressing all the concerns from both parties (Grainier, 2008). Robertson wrote, â€Å"people form personal intentions to achieve a variety of desired outcomes, and are satisfied with their Job to the extent that they perceive these goals will be successfully attained† (2009). By improving communications, HI has the opportunity to promote efficiency and improve processes at 3RD with the help of the employees. Recommendation: Open Communications HI should give special consideration to address changes in culture and conditions within 3RD with open communications between HI management, 3RD employees, contractors, and the public (Grainier, 2008). Addressing concerns and anticipating current customers’ needs and expectations will help the â€Å"gradual transition towards a capitalist political economy with an emphasis on capital accumulation, market competition, and international economic integration† (McNally, p. ). Communicate hanged, train new employees, inform contractors, and especially listen to your customers and the public (Grainier, 2008). Want, D (1999) asserted, â€Å"Guiana practices have played an important role in China’s capitalist transition, making them an indispensable element of any conceptualization of Chinese capitalis m† (as cited in McNally, p. 7). Friendship, trust, honesty, influences offer a more direct and open communication style. By nurturing relationships already established and identifying critical industry contacts, HI can positively establish themselves in the China market (McNally, 2011) (Grainier, 2008). Solar energy Is the main source of a clean and renewable energy, and collecting solar power as thermal energy Is becoming increasingly important especially at this time when there is increasing emphasis on enable energy and the cost of conventional power generation is increasing. Currently, solar thermal panels are becoming more and more popular because they can be placed on many buildings and common places, collecting and converting solar energy Into thermal energy, and supplying thermal energy through hot water systems. We will write a custom essay sample on Proposal or any similar topic only for you Order Now However, how to make solar energy collection and utilization more efficient is still a major problem. Literature Review: The solar thermal collector is the device that absorbs the incoming solar radiation, inverts it Into heat, and transfers this heat into fluid flowing through the collector. Thus, solar thermal collectors are special kind of heat exchangers that transform solar radiation energy to Internal energy of the transport medium. In recent years, many researches have been aimed to investigate and enhance the thermal efficiency of different kind of solar thermal collectors. Fernando-Garcia et al. Reviewed the parabolic-trough collectors and their Incorporation Into practical applications such as electricity generation and domestic hot water and space heating. Doughier et al. [2] researched the performance optimization of a solar water heater flat plate collector. Giuliani et al. Optimized solar water heating system through water replenishment. In addition, Caner et al. [4] used artificial neural network as a new method to conduct the thermal performance analysis so as to obtain a more accurate result. Nonetheless, many questions remain unanswered. For example, incorporate an efficient solar thermal collector into existing hot water systems? What analyses should we do in order to design an efficient solar thermal collector? What approaches may we use for such analyses? Proposed Research: The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CUFF) has been applied to many practical engineering problems including CUFF modeling to analyses energy efficiency involving heat transfer, convection, thermal radiation and energy storage. CUFF related research projects being conducted by He’s group across a broad selection of topics. For example, they reported that in the air conditioning industry chilled water storage systems are one form of cool thermal storage technology that can be used to time haft the electrical load of the system from the peak day periods to off peak night time periods[5]. Therefore, CUFF simulation and modeling should significantly help us finding answers to the above questions and contributing to the improvement of the efficiency of solar energy collection, storage and utilization. As a senior student majoring in Thermal Energy and Power Engineering, I have a solid knowledge background on Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and CUFF. I have also had real world internships such that during my internship at XX, I acquired an amount of knowledge on the research of the solar water heater in buildings. In addition, the project XX that I am currently doing enables me to use CUFF well, and helps me understand the overall concept and process of how to conduct a research. Furthermore, I have communicated with XX, and has agreed to help me and guide me in my research project. The main objective of this proposed research is to evaluate the design requirements of an efficient solar thermal collector supported by detailed analysis of the irradiative and convective heat transfers. Detailed analyses of the irradiative and convective heat transfers will be conducted, and the design requirements of an efficient solar thermal collector will be evaluated. With the results obtained through detailed analyses and evaluations, the research will aim to design, construct and test the requirements of efficient solar thermal collectors that are incorporated into existing hot water systems. The Two Voices Of The Seafarer Essay Example For Students

The Two Voices Of The Seafarer Essay The Two Voices of The SeafarerThere is much argument in the literary field as to whether there is more than one speaker in the Old English poem The Seafarer. In this brief essay we will look at some of the previous criticisms of the last two centuries, and through them attempt to prove that the speaker of the poem is the same one throughout. The author of The Seafarer is unknown. Its manuscript is untitled and unique, and is thought to have been inscribed around 975 AD. It survives on four pages of the Exeter Anthology which was given to the Exeter Cathedral in England, by the Archbishop Leofric, who died in 1072 AD. The Seafarer is a poem about an Anglo-Saxon man who, having apparently been banished from his home, has taken to the sea. John Pope, one of the foremost critics of the poem, postulated, and it is now generally accepted, that it is composed of three parts. Part A1, covering lines 1 through 33a, is believed to be the story of an inexperienced young sailor who tells of his hardships at sea. Part A2, lines 33b to 64a or 66a, and part B, 64b or 66b through 124, is told by an eager young sailor who loves the sea. An epilogue is usually believed to be contained in lines 103 through 124 (Pope, 177). Jove Pope’s greatest critical adversary, Stanley Greenfield, believed that A1 is details a voyage the speaker w as forced to undergo, and that the purpose of A2 is to emphasize the speakers choice to undertake a current journey (Greenfield, 107). The poem begins by telling us of how the young seafarer has â€Å"often suffered times of hardship / and have experienced / bitter anxiety.† He is journeying into a world of loneliness and a destiny away from his comitatus, his meadhall, and his lord. At times he despises his life at sea: â€Å"Oppressed by cold my feet were bound by frost / In icy bonds, while worries simmered hot / About my heart, and hunger from within / Tore the sea-weary spirit† (The Seafarer, Line 8). At others, he celebrates it: â€Å"Even now my heart / Journeys beyond its confines, and my thoughts / Over the sea, across the whales domain, / Travel afar the regions of the earth, / And then come back to me with greed and longing. / The cuckoo cries, incites the eager breast / On to the whale’s roads irresistibly, / Over the wide expanses of the sea,† (The Seafarer, Line 58). In Anglo-Saxon society a warrior believed in lof: he received glory by his valor in battle; his accomplishments in life. If his deeds were sufficiently notable his name would live on long after he died, granting him immortality. The Seafarer believes that â€Å"Sickness, old age, the sword, each one of these/ May end the lives of doomed and transient men. / Therefore for every warrior the best / Memorial is the praise of living men † (The Seafarer, Line 68). Halfway through the poem we see a drastic turn. Part A has mentioned almost nothing spiritual, only speaking of the hard life of a man who lives at sea. In the beginning of part B, in line 64b, however, he changes his thus far Anglo-Saxon tone to that of a pious Christian: â€Å"Because the joys of God mean more to me / Than this dead transitory life on land.†The conversion of Anglo-Saxon England was relatively quick. It went from a culture which had a comitatus conscience to one that was dominated by an individual, Christian conscience. Even during his musings on God, the speaker still laments â€Å"The singing gull instead of mead in hall† (The Seafarer, 23), the loss of â€Å"dear friends,† (The Seafarer, 15), and the lord he once had. At times it seems like the poet is attempting to reconcile the tensions between the two different cultures. .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488 , .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488 .postImageUrl , .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488 , .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488:hover , .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488:visited , .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488:active { border:0!important; } .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488:active , .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488 .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uec0d70cb448585fa1f969795fef4e488:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: History 111- Causes Of The Civil War Essay We will write a custom essay on The Two Voices Of The Seafarer specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now In one of the first know criticisms of the poem, Max Rieger in 1869 postulated that the poem is of one writer and speaks of a dialogue between two individuals; an eager young sailor and an older more cautious one (Rieger, 313). He believed that the poem is an example of the collision of Christianity with the Anglo-Saxon folktale tradition. Friedrich Kluge later speculated that the poem is actually two speeches, and that the entirety of part B, having apparently no correlation to the first, was the later addition of a â€Å"mediocre homilist† (Kluge, 322). C. C. Ferrell, in agreement with Kluge, believed that the poem was essentially pagan in sentiment, but since Christian monks were usually the transcribers of these early poems, he believed that the Christian scribe who copied it down made additions. The most notable of which is the homiletic ending (Ferrell, 402). The first to attack the theory of multiple voices was William Lawrence in 1902. Lawrence believed that the poem i s completely of one speaker. In his very influential article he examines the monologue theory which would prevail to the present day. Lawrence considers the poem the lyric utterance of one man (Lawrence, 462). Earlier critics, Lawrence claims, had divided the poem because of the interpretation of the word for?on (The Seafarer, 33b) which connects the speakers description of his suffering at sea and his desire to return to his seafaring. The word for?on had previously been translated as because, which suggests that the seafarer wishes to return to the sea because of his suffering there. From this apparent contradiction, the earlier critics had concluded that these were two different poems. Lawrence argues that for?on does not necessarily need to be interpreted as because, and suggests that the seafarer’s past suffering does not necessarily contradict his present longing. Another interesting theory comes from Gustav Ehrismann in 1909. Ehrissmann postulates, in agreement with Lawrence , that there is only one speaker, but that lines 1 through 64a are meant to be read as an allegory. He believed that the seafarer’s journey is symbolic of man’s state of â€Å"exile† due to Original Sin (Ehrissman, 213). O. S. Anderson later agreed with Ehrissmann`s theory on the allegorical nature of lines 1 through 64a, but that the rest of the poem had been a later addition (Anderson, 17). In 1950 Dorothy Whitelock greatly affected the literary criticism movement of The Seafarer. Whitelock volunteered the â€Å"Peregrinus Theory.† This theory utilizes the fact that â€Å"wandering ascetics† were common in Anglo-Saxon England at the time of the poem. Using this reasoning, she explains that The Seafarer is actually a unified monologue of one man (Whitelock, 261). She believes that the man in the poem has voluntarily abandoned society for the love of God, and is preaching the love of God over the love of society. I. L. Gordon later denounced Whitelock?s theory on the basis that the tone of the poem is â€Å"cold and desperate† compared with the â€Å"warmth† of other works that deal with the asceticism of the time (Gordon, 1). We believe that the speaker is meant to represent one speaker partially because of its subtle movement from part A to part B. There is a gradual transformation on the part of the speaker from a godless, embittered young seafarer, to a more experienced seafarer with a strong faith in God. The major difficulty in proving that there is only one speaker occurs between the descriptive first 64 lines, and the homiletic conclusion (Campbell, 235). A. P. Campbell attributed this to the theory of Anglo-Saxon â€Å"wanderlust.† He claims that the first 33 lines describe the seafarers suffering at the sea, as contrasted with the comfortable life of the townsman. There is a sense of mystery about his choice to roam the seas. He says the word â€Å"cunnian† (The Seafarer, 35b) contains a sense of exploring or trying out, which does not coincide with a penitential journey, but reflects the speakers excitement for travel. It exemplifies the Anglo-Saxon fascination with strange lands. Lines 39 through 49, that many previous critics had argued were pessimistic, he says, can be attributed to the hardship that everyone at the time would have had to suffer while at sea. Campbell argues that the reference to the cuckoo, a migratory bird, and its mournful call (The Seafarer, 53a), along with the coming of spring, emphasizes the speakers growing wanderlust. Using this line of thought, the controversial lines 55 through 64 can be thought to merely depict the speakers imaginative journey of the lands he will one day travel to. His wanderlust causes the speaker obvious discomfort, which leads him to the conclusion that he would rather have the joys of God mean more to me / than this dead transitory life (The Seafarer, 64). At this point the speaker realizes that the basis of his wanderlust is the desire to find his home in heaven. .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f , .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f .postImageUrl , .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f , .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f:hover , .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f:visited , .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f:active { border:0!important; } .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f:active , .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4b2ce13da241175c5985bc034b735c2f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Autism and the family EssayThe Seafarer is one of the most written about poems in the English language. The Gunpowder Plot of 1605 was a result of the inconsistent policies of King James I toward English Catholics. An attempt to increase toleration for, if not completely convert England back to the Catholic faith, the Gunpowder Plot was a well planned, well funded, but miserable catastrophe for the Catholic Church. The plot, which was intended to help with the advancement of Catholicism, set the church back dramatically and established distrust between the state and the Catholic Church that was virtually irreparable. Learn the History of Bas-Relief Sculpture

Learn the History of Bas-Relief Sculpture A French term from the Italian basso-relievo (low relief), bas-relief (pronounced bah ree ·leef)  is a sculpture technique in which figures and/or other design elements are just barely more prominent than the (overall flat) background. Bas-relief is only one form of relief sculpture; figures created in high relief appear to be more than halfway raised from their background. Intaglio is another form of relief sculpture in which the sculpture is actually carved into material such as clay or stone. History of Bas-Relief Bas-relief is a technique as old as humankinds artistic explorations and is closely related to high relief. Some of the earliest known bas-reliefs are on the walls of caves. Petroglyphs  were treated with color, as well, which helped to accentuate  the  reliefs. Later, bas-reliefs were added to the surfaces of stone buildings constructed by ancient Egyptians and Assyrians. Relief sculptures can also be found in ancient Greek and Roman sculpture; a famous example is the Parthenon frieze featuring relief sculptures of Poseidon, Apollo, and Artemis. Major works of bas-relief were created around the world; important examples include the temple at Angkor Wat in Thailand, the Elgin Marbles, and images of the elephant, horse, bull, and lion at the Lion Capital of Asoka in India. During the Middle Ages, relief sculpture was popular in churches, with some of the most remarkable examples decorating Romanesque churches in Europe. By the time of the Renaissance, artists were experimenting with combining high and low relief. By sculpting foreground figures in high relief and backgrounds in bas-relief, artists like Donatello were able to suggest perspective. Desiderio da Settignano and Mino da Fiesole executed bas-reliefs in materials such as terracotta and marble, while Michaelangelo created higher-relief works in stone. During the 19th century, bas-relief sculpture was used to create dramatic works such as the sculpture on the Parisian Arc de Triomphe. Later, in the 20th century, reliefs were created by abstract artists. American relief sculptors drew inspiration from Italian works. During the first half of the 19th century, Americans began creating relief works on federal government buildings. Perhaps the best known American bas-relief sculptor was Erastus Dow Palmer, from Albany, New York.   Palmer had been trained as a cameo-cutter, and later created a great many relief sculptures of people and landscapes.   How Bas-Relief Is Created Bas-relief is created either by carving away material (wood, stone, ivory, jade, etc.) or adding material to the top of an otherwise smooth surface (say, strips of clay to stone).   As an example, in the photo, you can see one of Lorenzo Ghibertis (Italian, 1378-1455) panels from the East Doors (commonly known as the Gates of Paradise, thanks to a quote attributed to Michelangelo) of the Baptistery of San Giovanni. Florence, Italy. To create the bas-relief Creation of Adam and Eve, ca. 1435, Ghiberti first carved his design on a thick sheet of wax. He then fitted this with a covering of wet plaster that, once it had dried and the original wax had been melted out, made a fireproof mold into which liquid alloy was poured to recreate his bas-relief sculpture in bronze.

Organizational Change and Development in FMC Green River Essay

Organizational Change and Development in FMC Green River - Essay Example In that case, organizational change must be planned, monitored and controlled throughout its lifecycle, with completion occurring on full implementation and evaluation. Organizational change decisions are often complex, multi-faceted, and involve many different stakeholders with different priorities or objectives. Most people, when confronted with such a problem will attempt to use intuitive approaches to simplify complexity until the problem seems more manageable. In the process, important information may be lost, opposing points of view may be discarded, elements of uncertainty may be ignored -- in short, there are many reasons to expect that, on their own, individuals (either lay or expert) will often experience difficulty making informed, thoughtful choices about complex issues involving uncertainties and value tradeoffs. This fact and the tendency of change issues to involve shared resources and broad constituencies means that group decision processes are called for. These may have some advantages over individual processes: more perspectives may be put forward for consideration, the chances of having natural systematic thinkers involved are hig her, and groups may be able to rely upon the more deliberative, well-informed members. However, groups are also susceptible to the tendency to establish entrenched positions (defeating compromise initiatives) or to prematurely adopt a common perspective that excludes contrary information – a tendency termed â€Å"group think.† (McDaniel’s et al., 1999). For change management projects, decision makers may currently receive four types of technical input: modelling/monitoring, risk analysis, cost or cost-benefit analysis, and stakeholders’ preferences. However, current decision processes in Green River typically offer little guidance on how to integrate or judge the relative importance of information from each source. Also, information comes in different forms. While  modelling and monitoring results are usually presented as quantitative estimates, risk assessment and cost-benefit analyses incorporate a higher degree of qualitative judgment by the project team.

American Society and Politics Nowadays Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

American Society and Politics Nowadays - Essay Example Those supporting stricter policies assert that illegal immigrants perpetuate poverty because they undermine benefits and wages stipulated for unskilled labor. When the laws are lenient, liberals and business owners in construction, food processing and hotel industries conspire to ignore the process of enforcing immigration law. In politics, an influx of immigrants is a crucial boost to the forces that facilitated their entry into the country. As an example, in the 2012 elections, there were over 12 million Latinos that cast votes (Kerwin, Chishti & Bergeron 69). According to statistics, that figure represents 10 percent of the body of voters in the US and is capable of changing the political landscape. Census forecasts indicate that the Latino electorate alonSe is estimated to reach 29 million voters in 2016, which sets in motion the scramble for both the Democratic and Republican parties to court them and other smaller immigrant groups (Kerwin, Chishti & Bergeron 74). However, when the immigration is not controlled, some unintended consequences may include higher crime rates, drug trafficking and the threat of terrorism. Therefore, this still leaves the debate for either stricter or lenient immigration policies.

Book Assessment of Go Ask Alice :: essays research papers

Book Assessment: Go Ask Alice 1) The most important character in the book is Alice. Her name is not Alice but her real name is never revealed so she is referred to as Alice. She is a lonely, middle class white teenager trying to pull through the long hard years of adolescence. Her life is not too exciting and her friends are dorky and unpopular. One summer day she is invited to mingle with the ?popular? group and she eagerly accepts. Virtually overnight, she is experimenting with drugs and doing things she never would have dreamed of doing. She wants to stop but she finds herself thinking about drugs all of the time. She becomes depressed because of the guilt she is carrying around because of all the sins she is committing. She is also very ashamed because she is infatuated with a boy named Roger but she lost her virginity to a boy named Bill. Her mood swings are drastic and some days Alice is cheerful and motivated to change and the next day she hates everybody in her life and is craving 2) Alice is a lugubrious teenager who gets caught up in the world of drugs. Her diary is her best friend because she never really has a real friend. Go Ask Alice is like watching somebody?s life fall apart at the seams while they simply sit back and watch with you. 3) One symbol in the book is problems of adolescent identity. Throughout the book, Alice is trying to find where she fits in and who really is. She is almost always searching for a best friend, somebody that understands her and someone who will accept her for who she is. She is constantly worried about what people think of her and can never blend in with any group or clique or class. She is perpetually balancing between childhood and adulthood. Another symbol is the maggots and worms eating dead bodies she is always paranoid about. This connects with her drug use and loneliness. When her grandfather dies (who Alice calls ?Gramps?), Alice is upset and withdraws herself from society. Soon this sadness turns into paranoia about the worms and maggots eating Gramps? dead body underground. She periodically mentions being paranoid about this and sometimes wonders if she is losing control of everything including her own mind. This is associated with the notion that nobody knows what is happening to corpses six feet underground while nobody knows what is happening in her mind and how much she is struggling to keep sane.

Compare the poems “Hard Frost” and “winter the Huntsman”

â€Å"Winter the Huntsman† and Hard Frost† are both poems which have the same settings, both are in the season of winter, Hard Frost (HF) was set at the end of winter and Winter the Huntsman (WTH) was set at the beginning of winter. â€Å"WTH† is set in a forest being captured by winter and â€Å"HF† is set in a rural, and near habitation. Also the image in hard frost is completely different to image portrayed in W. T. H. The image from H. F is that there is human habitation this is proven by this quote ‘at every footstep a tiny brittle pane is broken'. With the idea of humans being able to live along side with frost gives me the effect a Christmas card feel to the poem. In W. T. H the image created by the poem is completely different. The image is a cruel and harsh. The theme is a huntsman hunting down all colour and life from summer. Differences in the poem are continued with the use of personification. In â€Å"HF† frost is depicted as a soldier of the army of winter, evidence of this is numerous. One particular piece from the poem describes it best, â€Å"Frost called to water â€Å"Halt! , this personifies frost as someone who would command like a sergeant in the army. More aspects of frost being humanlike is in the following quote ‘interns poor fish'. This means that he has the power to lock away fish like people in prison cells. In â€Å"WTH† the poem personifies winter as a huntsman, evidence of this is this quote â€Å"is it winter the huntsman galloping†, I think that showing winter to be a hun tsman is interesting idea. The effect of winter being a huntsman gives me image of a Huntsman hunting down the last of the summer, more good imagery from this idea is that it reflects winter as a season. What is the difference between a figurative and a literal analogy? It reflects it because winter like a huntsman it is unpredictable and kills animals and plants as well as being a strong season with a few deaths. I have also picked out some evidence of the image of the huntsman being of a cruel nature, this quote shows it well â€Å"Crashing his cruel whip†. My reasons for picking out this evidence is that its key word is cruel, normally a huntsman kills for keeping animal numbers down or for food. Being cruel for no reason has raised attention for winter the huntsman enjoying the deaths he causes. The idea of winter the huntsman taking deaths gives him more power than anything in the forest. Evidence of him having power is in this quote â€Å"hiding each tree from his brother†, this shows that he has the power to torture trees when the huntsman likes. Both poems are littered in figures of speech. One example in hard frost is a mixture of simile and alliteration this quote is it â€Å"and tench in water bowls lurk under gluey glass like fish in bowls†. The simile in this piece of figurative language is effective because it gives effect of fish trapped in fish bowls; the bowls are formed by a unfrozen ice in the centre of a pond, giving the comparison of tench acting like goldfish. The alliteration in this poem ‘gluey glass' reinforces the idea of the fish being trapped in bowls; it does this by the ‘gl' sound made when you say the words. The effect is given because if you say ‘gl' it slows down your speaking speed. This is similar to the situation the fish are in, because the fish are stuck in the bowls and the alliteration slows down your speech rather like glue does to objects. A good example of good figurative language in winter the huntsman is these two simple words â€Å"iron glades† its dramatic effect is to harness the fact that winter is in the forest. It does this by comparing a frozen patch grass to a open area made from iron. The writer has chosen to do this because the colour of iron is dull and boring which reflects the grass in the glade. The fact that the grass looks dull gives more effect to image that winter the huntsman is killing of colour. Also iron tough and hard this probably indicates that the ground is frozen solid, another property of iron is that it is shiny, this contrasts with idea that the glade is frozen so that is shines a it. Another piece of imagery generated by HF is a metaphor ‘hangs a dagger from house eaves', this metaphor is comparing icicles to daggers. Using daggers another way do describe icicles gives the effect of a shape material, also daggers are reflective so that reinforces the idea of sharp cold weapon. Use of language in both poems is quite similar except for some types which tend to be different in a few ways. An example of colour used in poems would be one in H. F, it mentions colours (green, black and white) and allows colour to be present in the poem. In winter the huntsman colour is being hunted down, this quote proves this idea â€Å"and copper leaves fall† this suggests that the last of the leaves are gone so there is no more colour. One more of creative language is how harsh the poem is. In Hard Frost people are allowed to live, an example of this is â€Å"at every footstep breaks a brittle pane†. The key word in the sentence to give the idea of human habitation is ‘footsteps'. With idea of human habitation this poem gives me the image of a Christmas card. In winter the huntsman this is completely opposite, because it's more about winter taking over life and being cruel to what's left of life. Evidence of this is â€Å"as night creeps from the ground hides each tree from its brother† this gives me the image that he is isolating the trees so that makes them more vulnerable to the winter. I got the impression he is killing trees and being harsh. This is in the sentence â€Å"till many a mighty branch is torn asunder† this means that he is ripping the limbs of the trees making them feel pain. In the end both poems are different in imagery but the best image in my opinion is the one in hard frost because it's the Christmas that everyone tends to see. However winter the huntsman is more realistic but it is a image of winter that people don't want to see, because of the holiday of Christmas.
